About Bernie Smith Cars
Bernie Smith cars was established in 1992, starting at the old
fire station in North Melbourne, with only 6 cars!
Bernie then moved to one of the best locations in Melbourne, the old Lombards, the paper people's site, located on the corner of the Tullamarine Freeway entrance.
Having a love of old Australiana memorabilia, he decided to buy an old 1962 EK Holden and display it in his yard. The following day the eponymous TV show, Neighbours, spotted the car and it became a feature from then on, as Toadys ride!
Bernie then began to source out more classic cars and within 6 months had one of the biggest collections of Australian classic vehicles in Melbourne. The TV industry became one of Bernie's major clients. His vehicles were purchased and also hired by channels 7, 9 and 10! Some of those TV shows include; Rove Live, The Footy Show, Stingers, Neighbours, Underbelly, Sensing Murder and Jimeon and Good Guys Bad Guys just to name a few! His cars were also featured in classic Australian films such as; Last Man Standing, Ghost Riders, Mad Max 2, The Bank, Cracker Jack and Chopper!
Bernie then went on to form the company, Cars to the Stars, where he dealt with many celebrities, including; Gary Ablett Snr, Katie Kendal, Jeff Fenech, Barry Michael, Steve Jacobson, Alex Jesalenko, Peter Phelps, Marcus Graham and Tania Zaetta.
After almost 10 years at the Lombards site, Bernie has moved to his operations to a mega factory in Tullamarine. This factory is state of the art and all vehicles are handpicked by Bernie and are all displayed undercover. Vehicles range from classic Australian European luxury and vintage American classic vehicles.
A museum was opened up on January the 14th displaying vintage vehicles, motorbikes and garageanalia. It's really worth a look!
